About David Offutt

David Offutt has spent 20 years as a licensed insurance agent in Texas — writing policies, explaining coverage, and sitting across the table from people who needed a straight answer about what their insurance actually does. He is a Fort Worth native, an economist by training, a licensed agent by profession, and an educator by choice.

He co-authored Understanding Insurance in Simple English, available on Amazon, and wrote the insurance exam textbooks that tens of thousands of Texas agents studied before getting their licenses. He founded Texas Real Estate Academy and owns 123AceTheTest, both focused on licensing education in Texas. He is also available as an expert witness in insurance-related litigation.

He holds Texas Insurance License #1465807, an MS in Economics from the University of North Texas, and a BS in Economics from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Why I Built InsuredInTexas.com

When a Texas homeowner gets hit with a hail claim and discovers their 2% deductible means $7,000 out of pocket — not $200 — they go looking for answers. What they find is either the Texas Department of Insurance (accurate, but dry government language with no practical guidance) or law firm websites (plenty of guidance, but the goal is to get you to hire them).

There is almost nothing in between. No neutral, plain-English resource written by someone who actually knows the law, knows the policies, and has no stake in the outcome of your claim. That gap is why this site exists.

InsuredInTexas.com is an education hub. Every article is written from the perspective of a 20-year agent who has seen the scenarios play out. The goal is not to tell you what to do. It is to make sure you understand what your policy says, what Texas law requires, and what your options are — before you need a lawyer to explain it to you.

I do not represent insurance companies. I do not generate leads for law firms. I do not have an agenda in your claim. I am an agent and an educator, and this site reflects that.
